Company History

We are proud to be able to look back on a long company history. Founded in 1984, today Rauch is numbered as one of the leading suppliers of high-quality print media to handle a wide range of tasks in the areas of CAD, graphics, photography and FineArt.

In the early years, Rolf Rauch set himself up as an independent commercial agent with his own warehouse, in the light print and drawing technology business. A small office with adjoining warehouse and 6 employees were the foundation stone of today's success story. Rolf Rauch quickly established a good reputation with innovative light print papers from a French manufacturer.

He presented his portfolio at countless national and international trade fairs such as CeBIT in Hanover and other exhibitions in Frankfurt, Berlin, D├╝sseldorf, Stuttgart and Munich. Together with his wife Helga, he built up a nationwide network of specialist distribution channels.

From the beginning of the '90s, new technologies started to find their way into engineering offices. New ranges with selected papers for pen, thermal, electrostatic and inkjet plotters were added.

A continuous growth path made it possible to move into newly-built offices with warehouse in 1993. The company was converted into a limited company and by this time, Rauch was offering an extensive range of special papers for engineering offices.

A decisive, future-oriented step was taken in 1996 with the establishment of Rauch's own manufacturing company for the customised production of their own media for the plotter world. Following this, the ground was laid for further growth with the purchase of two factory buildings for the Rauch converting facility. Today, the converting facility employs 16 staff and has an annual processing capacity of more than 5,000 tonnes of paper.

Our marketplace is changing with the passing years, because of new print technologies and new growth industries following hot on the heels of each other. The colour inkjet printer with ever better print results and faster output opens up completely new possibilities and sets new challenges.

1998 saw the launch of a new CI under the banner of "Rauch ÔÇô Papiere, Folien und Ideen" ("Rauch ÔÇô Papers, Films and Ideas"). Elmer Kneer, who had been with the company since 1992, was made Managing Director and CEO.

In the same year, together with Andreas Malassa, Rauch established the company Amcad & Rauch in Dresden with branch offices in Berlin, Leipzig and Erfurt and expanded into the newly formed German states. With 16 employees and an excellent product offering, this company has established itself today as a competent system supplier for the construction industry, architects and engineering offices. In 2009, Amcad & Rauch was awarded Gold Partner Status by Hewlett Packard.

In 2002, Rauch took over the Kalle ReproMedia HandelsGmbH company, founded 1995 and headquartered near Vienna, an organisation with a successful structure, comparable to that of Rauch GmbH and therefore the ideal partner in a rapidly growing global market. Today, Kalle ReproMedia with its about 20 employees in Austria is the leading provider of graphics software from Onyx and printers from Mimaki and Canon. Moreover, Kalle ReproMedia keeps a wide range of media available on stock.

The purchase of a further factory building made even more space available for Rauch to extend its production and finally provided a home for the greatly expanded application centre. This allows Rauch to offer its customers, both inside and outside Germany, a complete portfolio of stringently tested print media and present an ever more comprehensive range of services such as printer profiles, application recommendations and technical product data.

Another groundbreaking decision was taken in 2003. With the help of a new, technologically advanced IT system, a far reaching redefinition of Rauch's organisational structure was started, with the goal of achieving a closer networking of purchasing, production, logistics and sales throughout all the company's business units and its partners.

In 2008, Armin Herdecker, who had been with the company since 2000, was made Managing Director and COO.

Today, the companies that make up the Rauch Group are active in practically every European country and, with a team of 50 employees, achieved an annual turnover in 2008 of 8,5 million Euro. This firmly positions the company as an important player in the market for high quality print substrates for photography, FineArt, graphics and CAD and as an indispensable partner for the specialist trade and commercial consumers.

From its headquarters in Spaichingen in the heart of Swabia, Rauch GmbH will continue on its successful development path, conscious of its traditions, centred on its customers, concentrating on its competencies and creative in its innovation.
